Piggy-backing onto this. A value for me would be to leverage gated as a short-cut to community. If I'm into wine-tasting, I'd like to easily find others or have others suggested to me who are into the same thing. This might require some standardization around topic categories. I'd also like to choose which of my interests are public and which have to be discovered by browsing to my specific profile.
